Avast Antivirus Has Gone Mad
Permalink

While it veers astray from our normal subject matter of broadband-related news, users in our security forum are indicating that Avast antivirus appears to have gone seriously off of the rails. According to users, the application has suddenly decided to flag many safe applications, freshly-downloaded files and dlls as malicious, wreaking havoc on user systems.

I did have a trojan listed in the System32 folder removed by Avast and...everything seems to be fine with the OS.

Alan

I will add SysInternals, Gmer, and Sophos did not find any rootkits.

I think all of the AV engines have issues from time to time. I too got a false hit, removed it, and marched on. I noticed that Avast has updated their engine and released a new set of definitions. wink.gif

^ In the example, it shows Notepad.exe as a trojan............ I would be most surprised when I saw that! LOL! I used Malwarebytes to confirm the findings before doing anything with it.... smile.gif
