New laptop cursor problems
Permalink

My husband recently bought me a new Lenovo laptop running Windows 7.  My browser is the new Firefox 4.0.1 but I also have Internet Explorer on it which I don't use.  My cursor problem is common to both browswers as well as programs run on the computer sans any browser involvement.

I use the built in (AWFUL) mouse touch pad (MUCH prefer the trackball on my pc!!  Anyhow the cursor is very strange.  If I place it on a link I either have to left click as usual .... OR it does it automatically without me touching anything.  There is no rhyme nor reason to it ... and of course it won't do it the way I want it to when I want it to do it that way.  I curse a lot!  LOL

I have searched the help ... but I don't know what to look for and have found nothing.  I found the 'ease of access settings' but none of them helped and really messed me up when I changed some till I figured out which ones I changed and reversed them.

The problem has been there since I first started using it.  I have a wireless regular mouse but haven't really used it yet.  Hubby thinks the problem might not exist using it ... but I am waiting to get a lap desk to use it.

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

It sounds like the pad is too sensitive. When you press it after you move the cursor that should select or left click. Did you try adjusting the mouse pad in the Control Panel. It also may help if you give us some specs.

Thanks!

I use a wireless mouse when I use the laptop I have. I thought a Lenovo would have the the track key (not sure what they call it). It's a key that's a joystick. That works better for me.

Hey!

Two things come to mind for me...... first, you can download the latest mousepad driver from Synaptic. I have dome that a few times and it works like a charm.

Second, using a USB mouse is a grand idea. You can pick up a notebook variety for a few dollars. Maybe that would save you some aggrevation in the long run!

Hope that you get it sorted!

Thanks all. I do have a USB mouse for it ... don't have a stand yet ... have special needs and have to buy stand that will slide under my recliner. Am now looking for one ... once I have it I'll try the USB mouse. As for the other suggestions, I only use the laptop ... hubby is the expert so I will show him this thread and see if he can get the mousepad to work better. Other than the cursor problem I've been having the laptop is working great. Thanks for all the input. Sorry I didn't get back here sooner, but I have been unwell.

Thanks for the get well wishes! I have been in the hospital and am just now home. Had an infected toe complicated by diabetes and heart problems. Toe is still bad but the infection is almost gone. At least I'm home and know I'm being taken care of.

Hey, glad you are back! Please take good care of yourself! Most likely you are youngster (compared to me) and don't need any more complications!

God Bless and Keep You Healthy! wink
