First Look at Windows 7 Release Candidate (RC1): Build 7100
(Preview)
Heeeere it is!
So, what’s different in this build? well, if you’ve been keeping up with all the leaked builds then there’s little new to see. In fact, when I compare it to say build 7057 there are virtually no visual changes to be seen (although I don’t remember this hideously scary and very d...

Well, I think so.... but I have thought that for a while now.... The other day I realized that it had been a long time since I’d talked about Linux as a whole as opposed to looking at specific distros. Also, over the past few weeks I’ve spent quite a lot of time discussing Windows, in particular Win...

Wow... this makes me feel so old!
You're not really supposed to love an operating system. It's like your car's hydraulic system, your digestive system or the global financial system. It's supposed to do its job -- and not get in your way while you're doing yours.
But like your car, your gut...

I may well have caused this myself...but the fix is fairly common. The registry gets corrupted through an uninstall and Windows cannot "see" the optical drives. Device Manager shows "exclaimations" and drive properties show "error 19" (registry corruption)....
