What are your thoughts on them and the brand?

We have gotten away from using the smaller travel drives...2 gb - 8 gb, and have gone to larger ones, 120 gb - 500 gb.

The brand we are using is LaCie.  We like them thus far, but I recently had one brought back for me to return because the formatting is messed up.

I was just wondering if any others use them and what your thoughts are regarding which brands are the best.

Hi estraya, to my knowledge Lacie can put whatever they like into an their external case. (and it may be a Maxtor :( )
In my wanderings I have found to stick with Seagate, Western Dig., or Hitachi (was IBM).

I should have stated that I have a WD 80Gb USB drive and it has been working fine for a couple years now!

I have the Maxtor Touch II. It is really quiet and fast. Connects with a USB port. It has been around for a while, but I really like it.

Right now I'm using a Maxtor (only because that's what came in this computer).
I have never had a hard drive failure -- have had several brands ranging from Quantum 'Bigfoot' to Seagate to Western Digital without problems.
Had never heard of LaCie before you mentioned it but NewEgg seems to stock a good variety of them.
