Microsoft tries blocking Word ban; gives appeal notice

Microsoft on Tuesday filed an emergency motion to delay a Texas judge's ban on selling one of its flagship products, Word, and gave official notice that it will appeal his ruling that the software giant infringed a patent held by a small Canadian company.

The Redmond-based company's appeal (PDF) goes to the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C., which oversees patent and trademark litigation.

Last week, Judge Leonard Davis upheld a jury's May verdict that Microsoft willingly infringed on an i4i Inc. patent on a method for processing custom XML. David also ordered a permanent injunction, effective after 60 days, that would prohibit selling, marketing and demonstrating Word in its current form.

Word to stay (temporarily)

Interesting but it's still a frivolous lawsuit -- a 'piss-ant' company trying to benefit from the ruling of a  dumb-ass federal judge!!
