Apple said on Tuesday that it plans to live stream its September 1 media event today.

The live stream marks the first time for years that the company has provided a video stream of their latest product announcements. Apple will broadcast today's event online using Apple’s HTTP Live Streaming, which is based on open standards according to the company. Although the stream is supposedly based on open standards, it will require a Mac, iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad to watch the stream. Windows users appear to be left in the dark.

Apple's media event will begin at 10AM PST (see other time zones). Rumours suggest that Apple will introduce a new iPod Touch with camera, new iPod Nano/Shuffle with a touch screen and the possibility of an updated Apple TV device.
