A phone that needs to charge overnight to produce 3 or 4 hours of battery life can render an otherwise outstanding smartphone useless all too quickly. Today's operating systems demand lots of battery power, but a few simple steps can help you conserve your phone's battery life and prolong your mobile sessions.
Step by Step
1. Charge the battery fully each time you plug it in.
2. Turn off any apps that you don't need to keep open. This leaves more battery power for mission-critical apps as you proceed through your day.
3. Turn off Bluetooth when you're not using it. Though Bluetooth isn't an energy hog, if the phone is faithfully detecting every Bluetooth-enabled device you walk past, it will eventually lose a significant amount of battery life.
4. Turn off auto-brightness and reduce brightness settings. Reduce the backlighting level, too.
5. In areas where 3G and 4G service are not available, set the phone not to use 3G or higher.
6. Turn off GPS on your Android phone or Location Services on your iPhone.
7. Reduce your screen's timeout interval to the lowest possible setting.
