With Verizon ditching its unlimited smartphone data plans today, the company announced that it will provide alerts to customers as they approach their data thresholds.Starting this week, Verizon customers on the new plans will get text messages after they eat up 50 percent, 75 percent, 90 percent, 100 percent, and 110 percent of their monthly data allowances. Those who use the online My Verizon account management tool can also sign up for email alerts, which can be sent to up to four accounts. Customers can also opt not to receive the 50 percent of 75 percent alerts.
