Software I should download?

I just bought a HP laptop with Windows Vista. What should I downlaod to keep it safe and running?

On my pc I use
AVG virus
Spybot - Search & Destroy
Ad-Aware

Should I use these also on my laptop or is there something else I should download?

Thanks for your advise

Mickey

Micky:
I use Norton Antivirus (as a component of Norton System Works), SpywareBlaster, and Winpatrol.

Vista is actually pretty good at detecting malware (using the program Windows Defender that is already installed). I would also suggest that you maitain the UAC interface (it will ask you permission when something is trying to install itself... just be wary when you click "yes".

I also suggest that you use either Norton's (as Vindicated said) if you want to buy a good suite of programs, or use AVG or Avast for your anti-virus ware. Vista has a robust firewall already installed, so no need for Zone Alarm.......

Hi Mick,
Stick with AVG on the laptop (my choice would be Avast) and you're pretty much set, as Barn said.
Vista's firewall is good...so you should be Ok

With apologies...I would NOT recommend Norton, McAfee, or any similar bloatware!

Thank you all for your help.

I'm still learing Vista. I have one more question. I'm getting a popup from Microsoft Phishing Filter, should I turn this on or not?

Thanks again.

I suggest turning it on. It will help protect you, and is a good safeguard, IMHO wink.gif
