Of course it's good advice...and many people use an recommend CCleaner to do what Bill suggests.

I strongly recommend AGAINST using CCleaner!!
I have personal knowledge of instances where CCleaner caused computer crashes -- one case where a complete reformat/reinstall was required to regain use of the computer!!

You are most likely talking about using the registry cleaner.
I'm talking about temp files and internet trash.

Although in my experience, I have never had a problem using the registry cleaner in many years of CCleaner use.

For anyone not comfortable manually editing the Registry, I maintain CCleaner is a dangerous program!
Windows Internet Options offers everything needed to get rid of temp files and internet trash -- why do you need CCleaner???

This utility does a ton more than clearing internet cache and you customize it as to what you want it to remove.
I personally know of no one that has hosed there Windows install with CCleaner.
It is one of the tools I use on friends PCs when I try to speed them up.

Here are a few freeware sites that recommend it:

http://www.softpedia.com/reviews/windows/CCleaner-Review-63082.shtml
http://www.freewaregenius.com/2006/10/02/ccleaner-review-top-notch-hard-drive-cleaner/
http://majorgeeks.com/CCleaner_Standard_d5125.html

In my opinion there is nothing dangerous about CCleaner (and there is a back-up function for cleaning the registry)

Guess we'll have to agree to disagree, Alan.
