Questions About Satellite HD Hardware
Permalink

Right now I have DishNetwork with one receiver that picks-up 3 "birds".
I have been told that I need all new equip't. from the dish down for HD.
Is that true?  What satellite has the HD?
I am thinking of switching to Direct because that is the only way to get a "deal".

Thanks,
Alan

Hey Alan,

I use Direct TV and as far as I know, all signals that come in are digital. No extra equipment other than a satellite tuner are required.

Satellite TV uses a digital signal the broadcasting companies supply through the satellites at the stations. This signal is then received by the receiver, which hooks to the television by coaxial cable. This is the only time the signal passes through something, which provides the clearer picture. Cable companies often ask you to rent a digital box to receive the digital picture, but with satellite TV you just need the updated television to transmit the digital image on the screen.

We're using Direct TV here too. You'll need an HD receiver which costs $99 and adds $10/month to your bill. Right now we are using 3 Standard receivers and are paying a total of $64.81/month.

As far as I know small dish systems have always been digital.

My questions are concerning the acquisition of high definition programming not receiving HD local channels per se.
If I have a dish that grabs 3 sats do I need a different dish or can I just get a new receiver?

I hope this makes sense.

Alan
