Digits’ Jennifer Valentino-DeVries will be talking with Microsoft’s Stephen Elop, who manages the company’s Office software division, on May 12. Microsoft is set to release Office 2010 to businesses that day and will release the software to consumers this summer.
The newest version of Office will include a host of Web features intended to compete with Internet-based applications such as word-processing and email from Google. The company also will offer a free, ad-supported online version of the software, according to the Journal’s Nick Wingfield. Microsoft will need to convince users not only that they should choose Office over the Web-based programs but also that the new version of Office has enough compelling features that they should upgrade from older editions.
When we switched to 07 we had to leave Access 03 on because when we had tried to upgrade our DBs became corrupted. It was a huge mess. Well, then 07 apparently was fixed. We haven't tried it because we don't want to lose the DBs again, but we all finally moved to 07 this year for everything EXCEPT the DBs. LOL! It will probably be 2013 before we get to 2010.
We have hired a programmer who over the next 2-4 years will be creating Oracle Express programs to take the place of Access. Cleaner for the end user and more stable.
