Need Help In Streamlining My Connection In Win7
Permalink

I need some real basic help (and I can't find it in the OS help files or Google). confuse
I would like to have Windows automatically connect (dial-up) when I click Firefox or failing that, add an icon for dial-up to Quicklaunch.

I will add one thing for the new dial-up fax modems (or maybe the page rendering speed of dual CPUs)...they are much faster. biggrin

Thanks!

http://support.earthlink.net/articles/dialup/create-a-dial-up-networking-connection-on-windows-7.php

The easiest way is to go to the window where it lists all your dial up networking connections and click the automatically connect check box, followed by connect... You can cancel straight away but clicking connect saves the changes.

Next, click on the start menu then expand "all programs", right click the startup group and choose open.

Lastly, drag a shortcut from dial up networking to the startup group and it should launch and automatically connect every time you log on.

I will look into the "automatically dialing up" but I thought that this did when you clicked on any browser or other internet app?

I can't find any way to use/navigate your instructions and I will have to check "YouTube" at work.

How about this?

http://support.mozilla.com/sq/kb/How%20to%20make%20Firefox%20automatically%20dial%20up

or this:

http://download-firefox.org/get-firefox/how-to-make-the-firefox-automatically-dial-up/

Let me know if either of these do not work for you. I do not have dial-up, so I can't test it myself.
One or the other of these should hopefully work for you, Alan!

Thanks Barney, but they (pretty much the same instructions) do not make it dial-out automatically in Win7 (after reboot). The only thing I noticed was in "Connections" it lists as default connection (dial-up) but when I changed to "dial whenever a network connection is not present"...the "set default" is grayed-out. So I just clicked "apply" and "Ok".

I wonder if that worked for you?

As with all good computers...you leave it alone for a while and it starts working! In its own good time. (I guess that happens when you have 2.1 Million lines of code...in just the kernel!)

Yep -- Windows 7 does a pretty good job of maintaining itself.

Have you installed SP1 & IE 9 on your new computer yet?
I'm still having a problem putting posts on TMF using IE9 -- I can go to Chrome and post on TMF OK in the default font format only so I'm using Windows XP SP3 with IE8 instead, for posting on TMF.

I'm waiting on SP1 (dial-up you know) and I don't have a reason to use IE9. I think you can do an IS0 download and burn a disc for SP1. I will check.

It's a big download & install -- took me about 58 minutes on DSL.
Good idea with the ISO download & CD burn.
