Windows' Blue Screen of Death: A History

Windows 8 has a new Blue Screen of Death: a sad face emoticon—at least in the Developer's Preview. A sad face. That may be new to Windows 8, but the terror of the stop error certainly is not.

You're familiar with the Blue Screen of Death, yes? If you've used Windows, there's good chance you've encountered this worrisome image. The Blue Screen of Death (also known as BSOD) occurs when hardware or drivers on Windows PC produces a fatal error that results in a system crash. Windows courteously displays the error information onscreen using white text on a blue background—hence the name.

The BSOD is terrible no matter what color you make it!

I've been fighting it for the last few days due to Microsoft's defective plug & play driver for my newly added USB to Midi hardware.  Finally got the problem solved by downloading & installing DriverMax's most recent driver.

The most finicky drivers in Windows have always been graphics drivers.

They wouldn't like something about your set-up or coming out of "sleep mode" or "hibernate" and they would "hang" the loading process and present you with a BSOD! blehashamed

It's probably a "blue screen" because of the language that follows the notice! furious
