So here I am with a 7 year old XP system that needs to be replaced. Timing has never been my strong suit. If you were buying a new computer, would you buy a Windows 8 computer or have a system built with Windows7?
I plan to get another desktop, so I really don't know whether to bite the bullet and go with 8 or go to a local shop for 7. My indecision comes from the fact that 8 is so unpopular. On the other hand, if this is the future of operating systems, maybe I should take the plunge now.
Thanks, I guess I'll be spending some time learning the new system. My current system is all up to date. I am a "little" OCD about keeping my system as clean and up to date as possible. It irritates me that I can't update to the most recent version of IE. I tend to be very security conscious. I do run disk cleaner and defrag as needed. I will check out diskeeper - every little bit helps.
The really sad part is that this system still works fine, as does my old Win 98 system. I've been very lucky with Dell systems. Sadly, planned obsolescence comes into play. I even have an old Apple IIe system that still worked when I finally took it apart about 6 years ago.
Thanks, Pat, this is exactly what happens when I wait too long to spring for a new system. I get caught in the MS trap. I avoided ME and Vista, but I'm getting caught by 8. I have heard very little good about 8. The simple fact that it works best with a touchscreen device is annoying to me. I know there are ways to compensate, but I don't feel that should be part of dealing with a new system.
Rather than get used to Windows 8...I would try a Linux distro. I have use Ubuntu with Firefox and it was easy and responsive. I hate to say never but I can't see myself using W8! Although, there are ways of making 8 look and act like 7!
